Michael Ian Fanning

Mr. Fanning is chairman of the Consuming Industries Trade Action Coalition (CITAC). Elected in August 2002, he heads the coalition of companies and trade associations representing the interests of American consuming industries in the policymaking process.

Mr. Fanning is Michelin North America's vice president for public relations and government affairs. He joined the Greenville, S.C. - based company in 1999 and in 2000 was appointed to his current position. His responsibilities include oversight of staff in the United States, Canada and Mexico who support internal and external communications for the company.

From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Fanning served as vice president of corporate and marketing communications at The Liberty Corp. in Greenville, S.C. In this capacity, he directed financial public relations, shareholder relations and employee communications and also launched the Intranet and Internet sites for the insurance and broadcasting corporation.

Mr. Fanning served as public relations director for The Reader's Digest Association in New York from 1994 through 1997, directing corporate and financial media relations, global employee communications and European public relations for the Fortune 500 publishing and direct marketing company.

From 1984 through 1994, Mr. Fanning worked in a variety of positions at Bethesda, Md. - based IBM Federal Systems, eventually serving as manger of marketing communications and external programs. He also worked at the Associated General Contractors of America in Washington, D.C. from 1978 to 1984 in several public relations and government affairs capacities.

Mr. Fanning earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, University College, in Radio, TV and Film. In additional to chairing CITAC, Mr. Fanning is a board director for the South Carolina School for Science and Mathematics Foundation, a corporate member of the Arthur W. Page Society, board director for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the United Way Board of Trustees.
